-History- Early fire protection was provided by a Village fire department, beginning in the early 1900's. In 1945 the Township took over fire protection for both the Township and the Village. In 1954 the department moved into the station pictured here, which has since been converted into the Village of Dimondale office. In 1975 the Township also took on the responsibility for ambulance service, operating it as a separate department, but housing both the fire and ambulance operations together. In the mid 1980s a new station was built on West Jefferson and an addition was put on that building in the late 1990's. In 1993 the ambulance operation upgraded to Advanced Life Support (paramedic) operation and hired full-time staff. The full-time staff were cross-trained to respond to fires also and the two departments operated as one. In 2001 the merger was formalized as the departments were merged into one Emergency Services Department, consisting of a Fire Division and an EMS Division.
